Aval Upma (Flattened rice Upma)


                                            Aval upma is a very tasty dish.My mother used to prepare this dish often. Also, it is very easy to prepare. I like it very much and Iam sure that all of you will like Aval upma. Why don’t you try this today itsel?


  1. Flattened rice :1 cup
  2. Onion              :1 finely chopped
  3. Mustard seeds:1/2 spoon
  4. Curry leaves    :1 sprig
  5. salt                   :as required
  6. Oil                    :1 teaspoon
  7. Dried red chilli:1
  8. Water as required.


Keep the pan on the flame.Pour oil into it. Add mustard seeds. Let it pop in the oil. Now add Finely chopped onion.Stir it till it attains golden yellow colour. Add red chillie which is cut into pieces.Then add the currry leaves and stir it for 2 minutes. Now add flattened rice into the pan.Add required salt. Sprinkle water, close it with a lid . Reduce the flame and simmer the upma for 2-3 minutes. Keep stirring. If the flattened rice is very hard, sprinkle some more water and close it with a lid. After 2 minutes remove the lid.  Now the upma is ready. Transfer it into another bowl and serve hot.
